Fine Arts: Art, Music, Drama are an important part of our cultural heritage and an essential element of a well-rounded education. The Fine Arts Department develops visual sensitivity and creative expression through a variety of experiences, observations, and performances in the Visual Arts, Musical Arts, and Performing Arts.

Courses
ACP Beginning Band (Year-long course)
You don’t have to be a musical genius to learn how to play an instrument. Beginners can take this performance-based class to prepare them to join the award-winning Pride of LaSalle Band the following year. Don’t worry if you don’t have an instrument—one will be provided for you or a rental option can be set up. Don’t miss this chance to make life-long friends and become a part of one of LaSalle’s biggest student organizations. Contact Band Director Brian Fischer at bfischer@lasallehs.net with any questions. ACP Band I, II, III, IV (Year-long course)
Do you currently play an instrument, or did you grow up playing one? Taking this band class will give you a platform with which to showcase your musical talents for an entire year. It spans both the marching and concert band seasons, and will give you an opportunity to further develop your skills with the award-winning Pride of LaSalle Band. ACP Theatrical Arts (Year-long course)
This course will focus on three elements of Communication - Speech, Drama, and Film. In order to introduce students to the elements of speech there will be an emphasis on the preparation of informative and persuasive speeches. Students will learn how to select and organize material, various methods of securing interest and attention, and the techniques to achieve a polished delivery. As students learn about the elements of Drama they will explore the following: History of theatre, characterization, interpretation, costume, make-up, set design, lighting design, famous plays, famous playwrights, monologues, pantomimes, and choreography. Students will also study Telecommunications and Art of the Film. Students will be exposed to film history, famous directors, stars and films. This course is designed to an introduction to Speech, Drama, and Film. All that a student needs to find success in this course is confidence, a positive mental attitude, self-discipline, and a good speaking voice and willingness to accept a challenge. Participation in one of the La Salle Drama Department's productions is highly recommended by not required. One Credit
ACP ART I (Year-long course)
This is a beginning art class for the first year student. Students will study principles and elements of design relevant to all art. Basic drawing is emphasized early in the year and reinforced throughout the course. Perspective and color will be studied throughout the introduction of several media, such as collage, ink drawing, markers, ceramics, printmaking, watercolor and acrylic painting and sculpture. This course is designed to prepare students to continue in art through succeeding years. However, this is a self-contained course, and a student is not required to continue. (Note: Students in Art classes may be required to purchase tools, material, and supplies.) One Credit.
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY (Year-long course)
Students will integrate art concepts and computer technology. They will have a basic understanding of the fundamental principles and elements of art, history of design and a variety of computer software. They will develop visual awareness and understanding of familiar images that will take on a new meaning when they are composed, framed, and designed differently through art and computer technology. Students will explore avenues by which the computer can be used in their artistic pursuits while becoming competent in the technical skills and learn the functions of graphic design. (Prerequisite Art I) Therefore, this course is only offered to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.
ACP ART II (Year-long course)
This is a continuation of Art I, with a review of design, advanced watercolor and acrylic painting, advanced drawing, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. Students will expand on their use of media introduced in Art I. Advanced painting, printmaking, and watercolor will be introduced into class through the use of films, slides, and reports. Students will be introduced to abstract art by completing an eight-step abstraction. The ultimate goal is to prepare and present a top quality portfolio in his senior year. One Credit.
ACP ART III (Year-long course)
Art III is a continuation of Art II, with emphasis on the development of the student as an artist. Emphasis is placed on the student’s ability to be unique, original and creative in his use of several media such as advanced drawing and painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. Mixed media will be introduced and used extensively throughout the year. During the second semester, students will begin to organize their portfolios which will be finalized within Art IV. Critiques will be used to develop the student’s ability to evaluate and criticize not only the work of others, but also his own work. Art history is incorporated into critiques through reports and discussions on the role of art today. (Prerequisite: Art II) One Credit.
HP ART IV (Year-long course)
This course is designed for the student who is serious about art as either a lifetime hobby or as a career. The first half of the course will concentrate on the preparation and completion of a portfolio of eight to twenty-four examples of the student’s best work. This portfolio should include at least four drawings and examples of at least three other media such as acrylic and watercolor painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. In the second half of the course, the student will work on selected areas of concentration, using his best or favorite media. Along with this concentration, students will log their ideas and study of a particular artist or movement in art that has influenced them the most. (Prerequisite: Art III or the equivalent thereof) One Credit.
ACP Fine Arts Appreciation (Year-long course)
Students in this appreciation course of the fine arts will study various music and art forms. Art talent, prior musical knowledge or the ability to play a musical instrument is not a prerequisite in order to enroll in this course. Students will develop a visual and listening appreciation of numerous historical and current styles of art and music through an Interrelated study of the artists, composers and their works. This course will also involve students doing some hands-on artwork. One Credit
La Salle Chorale I- (Year-long course)
This yearly performance-based course is open to all students at LaSalle. Students are exposed to and learn to sing many different genres of vocal music, but mostly concentrating on four-part men's chorus literature. Students receive vocal training in the areas of breath control, vocal tone production, proper singing pronunciation, and others. Elements of music history are included to give students a better perspective on the music they are studying. It is hoped that the individual students take this class for more than one year, so as to better their ability over time. Students who exhibit higher levels of ability will be asked to form small ensembles (usually quartets), to enhance their learning experience in the choral area and to expand their performance experience. Concerts are held both during school for the faculty and students and in the evening for the general public. Evaluations are both written and performance in nature. One Credit

La Salle Chorale III - (Year-long course)
The third year of Chorale (see Chorale I description). One Credit
La Salle Chorale IV - (Year-long course)
The fourth year of Chorale (see Chorale I description). One Credit
La Salle Vocal Ensemble - (Year-long course)
This advanced performance-based choral group is AUDITION ONLY. The La Salle "Vocal Ensemble" will be comprised of 15 select vocalists grades 10-12 and will represent our school in local and regional liturgies, community shows, concerts, festivals and competitions. Students will be required to rehearse and perform with 15 select girls outside of the school day, as well as maintain good academic standing. Summer show camp is highly recommended. The pre-requisite for this course is to complete one year of chorale. This may be waived at the Directors discretion. One Credit
